In October 2026, Frontex (the EU border agency) and European travel-trade bodies warned of more than 150 unofficial websites offering ETIAS, some using EU symbols. Because no application is processed before launch, any fee paid today buys nothing. When ETIAS opens, apply only on the official EU website or app.
Non-EU, but Schengen
Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland are the four non-EU members of the Schengen area. Days in Switzerland count in your 90 days in any 180, and the Swiss migration office confirms ETIAS will apply: €20, generally valid for 3 years, no applications collected yet.
Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is in Schengen too and has no airport; you reach it through Switzerland or Austria without a border check.
What to show at the Swiss border
Border guards may ask for proof of accommodation, travel insurance, a return ticket and enough money, around 100 Swiss francs a day according to UK advice.
New Zealanders
A bilateral agreement lets New Zealand passport holders stay up to 90 days in Switzerland regardless of time spent elsewhere in Schengen, under strict conditions: proof of the days spent in Switzerland and leaving Schengen directly from a Swiss airport.
Schengen visas work too
If you need a visa, a Schengen visa from another member state is also valid for Switzerland.
The basics, in short
- Passport issued under 10 years ago, valid 3 months after you leave.
- 90 days in any 180, all Schengen countries together.
- ETIAS at launch: €20, valid 3 years or until the passport expires.
