In October 2026, Frontex (the EU border agency) and European travel-trade bodies warned of more than 150 unofficial websites offering ETIAS, some using EU symbols. Because no application is processed before launch, any fee paid today buys nothing. When ETIAS opens, apply only on the official EU website or app.
European France only
Only the European territory of France is in the Schengen area. ETIAS, the EES and the 90/180-day rule concern mainland France and Corsica.
Overseas France has its own rules
None of France's territories outside Europe are in the Schengen area: Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, Mayotte, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Wallis-et-Futuna and the French Southern Lands. Each has its own entry order; check France-Visas for your nationality.
Monaco
Monaco has no airport and is reached through France, usually via Nice. Your Schengen check, and ETIAS once it starts, happen at your French point of entry. Monaco nationals themselves are outside ETIAS.
Andorra
Andorra is not in the Schengen area. Going there from France or Spain means leaving and re-entering Schengen, so your passport goes through the border again.
Eurostar from London
Travelling from St Pancras, Folkestone or Dover, the French border check and EES registration take place in the UK before you board.
The basics, in short
- Passport issued under 10 years ago, valid 3 months after you leave.
- 90 days in any 180, all Schengen countries together.
- ETIAS at launch: €20, valid 3 years or until the passport expires.

Rules for France by nationality
Visa or no visa, passport validity, money to show and hosting certificates, nationality by nationality.
Do I need a visa for France?FAQ
Will I need ETIAS to visit France?
Yes, once it is operational, if you are a visa-exempt traveller (US, UK, Canada, Australia…). Not today: no applications are accepted.
Do I need ETIAS for Guadeloupe, Martinique or Tahiti?
ETIAS is tied to the Schengen area, which France's overseas territories are not part of. They keep their own entry rules, set by French orders for each territory.
Do I need ETIAS for Monaco?
You enter Monaco through France, so you will need ETIAS for that French entry once it starts.
Does Corsica count as France for ETIAS?
Yes. Corsica is part of European France and of the Schengen area.
Checked: 21 October 2026, against france-visas.gouv.fr, eur-lex.europa.eu, eur-lex.europa.eu, gov.uk, home-affairs.ec.europa.eu. Rules can change: official sites prevail. No ETIAS start date has been announced; we will not guess one.
