UK ETA for Canadians
Canadian citizens do not need a visa to visit the UK for up to 6 months, but they need an Electronic Travel Authorisation before boarding (required since 8 January 2025).
Specific to Canadians
Right of abode through a parent or grandparent
Some Commonwealth citizens have the right of abode in the UK. If that is your case, you do not need an ETA, but you must prove it with a certificate of entitlement in your passport.
Youth Mobility Scheme
Canadians aged 18 to 35 can live and work in the UK on a Youth Mobility Scheme visa. With that visa you do not need an ETA.
Dual nationals
Canadian and British: use your British passport. Canadian and Irish: your Irish passport is enough, no ETA.
Permanent residents of Canada
Permanent residence does not count. A permanent resident holding, say, a Philippine passport needs a UK visa, not an ETA.
